Windows 11’s Newly-Discovered Easter Egg

The Verge found a thread on the Windows 11 subreddit revealing the Easter egg. In the original post, the author tells people that you can spin the little cog that appears at the top-right of the Notepad app. All you need to do is right-click and it’ll spin all by itself.

Users pointed out that this same cog appears in other windows, such as Task Manager. And you’ll be pleased to know that, yes, you can spin those cogs too.

Public reaction has been mixed to this discovery. Some users lambasted Microsoft for working on these Easter eggs while so much of Windows 11 still needs work, while others got to work spinning the cogs on their own PCs for hours on end.

Another Treat From Microsoft

Microsoft is no stranger to adding Easter eggs to its software. In fact, we listed the weirdest Windows bugs and Easter eggs that you have to see, including watching Star Wars in your Command Prompt.

As such, it’s lovely to see the company adding a little bit of fun into its operating system. And it’s highly likely that this was coded by one bored developer instead of Microsoft’s entire Windows 11 team, so don’t worry about it affecting the operating system’s development.

Making the Cogs Turn in Windows 11

The next time you can’t think of what to write in Notepad, or you’re waiting for unresponsive programs to end in Task Manager, why not give the cog a spin? It may not be the silver bullet that fixes all of Windows 11’s problems, but it’s certainly fun.
