Sony could also capitalize on those without one. PS Plus subscribers who don’t have a PSVR unit could be swayed further to purchase one if they see a backlog of PSVR games waiting for them on their PS4 queue. Even if adding a PSVR game every month seems like the obvious thing for Sony to do, it wouldn’t be the first time it had tried to do so. Previous months in PS Plus’ history indicate a few other attempts at getting PSVR some representation on the service’s monthly game additions.

PSVR Games on PS Plus Right Now

Ever since Sony adopted the two-games-per-month strategy for the service in March of 2019, it exclusively released two PS4 games every month instead of the usual barrage of PS3, PS Vita, and PS4 games that subscribers used to be accustomed to. During this new monthly release strategy, the company never chose to include any PSVR games in the mix, even though Sony considers the VR peripheral to be a success. Even with Firewall Zero Hour, PS Plus’ PSVR games line-up is not too strong.

Over the entire history of PS Plus, it has only ever gotten three PSVR games which were Here They Lie (added in August of 2018), Until Dawn Rush of Blood (added in December of 2017), and RIGS Mechanized Combat League (added in September of 2017). Firewall Zero Hour marks only the fourth PSVR game to be added to the service. So, Sony has clearly experimented with putting PSVR games on PS Plus in the past but it never consistently stuck with it. Though the reasons are obvious for why it would be beneficial for users to get a PSVR game every month, the argument against it is less exciting.

As of the end of 2019, Sony has sold through over five million units of PSVR (which require PS4) to consumers. With the PS4 also confirmed to have sold over 106 million units as of the same time frame, only 4.7% of PS4 users have purchased a PSVR unit, and there are almost 37 million PS Plus subscribers meaning Sony will only be making another game available to a fraction of a fraction of the PS4 install base.

Great PSVR Games That Should Be on PS Plus

If it did decide to go the route of a monthly PSVR game being added to the service, then there are plenty of great games that Sony could put in that would convince users to sign up and buy a PSVR. Firewall Zero Hour was released in 2018 so going by that year, some other popular 2018 PSVR games that would make a huge splash on PSVR include Moss (the hit adventure game where the player controls a mouse), the popular VR puzzle game from producer Tetsuya Mizuguchi Tetris Effect, and Sony’s own Astro Bot Rescue Mission.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission made a particularly significant impression on critics at the time, with the game currently sitting at a solid 90 points on Metacritic. These three games alone would make PS Plus an even more worthwhile service and could potentially regain the interest of former subscribers, not to mention the fact that this would be easy marketing for the PSVR which has only been getting cheaper over the years. Additionally, because the PS5 will support PSVR (and could potentially get a PSVR 2), the buildup of PSVR games in PS Plus could last users a long time.

The Bioshock Collection, The Sims 4, and Firewall Zero Hour will be available on PS Plus from February 4 to March 2, 2020.
